If I Was Your Best Friend

I've never had the type of personality to use others. I never thought it was necessary to use someone to get something that I wanted. I've always had a stickler, go getter personality. Even as a child, I remember knowing what I wanted and going after it, but it was always genuine and kindhearted. I could never understand how people would use each other by pretending to care. If I dislike someone, it's probably because I dislike their ways. I have the ability to read personalities and once I see someone's true colors my mind is then set.

I simply love working as a team in any form of group setting. I can appreciate the connections, the team effort, and the ability to share ideas. But, I am not capable of stealing someone else's idea and running with it as if it was my own. I do believe ideas are created from other ideas, that is why I enjoy working in group settings. When working in these specific settings the relationships should be built of trust. All relationships should be built of trust, not just personal relationship but, friendships and "business-ships" as well.

Do you think it's possible to make it in this "dog eat dog world" without using others for your personal success? How do you continue to build your net worth without loosing your integrity?

It Cost Me A Lot! ! !

Why is it is so easy to loose focus on the things that matter? It's so challenging to go after the things we want from life but, it so easy to give up and let go. Would you consider letting go a form of quitting? Maybe, depending on the situation. I would never consider myself a quitter, I have to much pride for that. Although, I am the type of women that will no longer do things because I just don't want to. Should I still be labeled a quitter because of that?

I absolutely despise this statement "in order to get where you want to be, you have to do things you don't want to do". But, why is it that I should have to suffer in uncomfortable situations in order to be successful in life. If there is something that I don't like, I'm changing it. If I'm around someone I don't like, I'm leaving them. If I'm working at a place I no longer want to, I'm quitting simple as that.

Should I be punished for my actions because of this? Am I trying to alter my road to success? Or am I just impatient and think things should go how I want them to?

Honestly, am I really the only person that feels this way?

Designers on The Rise

Although New York Fashion Week has ended, there are still a few designers I will like to recognize. I am so inspired by young entrepreneurs in fashion and I enjoy thumbing through all of their photos over Instagram. Emerging designer are extremely knowledgeable of the social media marketing tactics of today. Artist face many challenges to stay authentic and true to their brand. Although social media can enhance an artist career, it can also minimize it as well.

I decided to create a short list of designers that have caught my eye via social media. I have been following these professionals for sometime now. I've seen there careers and businesses advance in multiple ways. In spite all of the negatives and artificial duplicates that come along with the business, these designers have and will continue to advance through it all.

1. Sosorella Boutique
Founder Heather Sanders has created a house hold name for herself and her brand. Born in Texas, Heather relocated to Los Angeles. Her passion for fashion became stronger and her dream of one day owning her own online boutique became her reality. This Blue Haired Bombshell has created a profitable business for herself and I can only see her tripling her wealth in the near future.

2. The Confetti Boutique
Progression and change is the key to a successful business and designer Duckie knows it. In the beginning of his career Duckie assembled garments appealing to those who live lavish  lifestyles. Celebrities were drawn to his bold cheetah pocket tee's, printed sleeves and floor length dresses. Since then Duckie has added a fur line to the company, astonishing fashionistas from all over including Clair Sulmers, founder of Fashionbombdaily.com. Now, at the peak of his career I am curious as to what he is going to do next.

As an established dreamer, she is also a true testament that dreams do come true. Areeayl describes her work as whimsical and fancies bringing figments of her imagination to life. Anyone can have a dream, but having the courage to witness your dreams turn into a reality is what matters the most. I admire Areeayl's work ethic and I look forward to her greater success.

What Now? ? ?

Ghetto Children, is not only geared towards fashion but, towards life and following your dreams; although, my original objective in 2010 was fashion. I was a Sophmore in college then, and fashion played a major role in my life. There were always fun activities going on around campus such as 10:40am breaks, basketball games, programs, and chicken Wednesdays in the cafe. My girlfriends and I dressed up for every occasion, a lot of times they would even look to me for fashion advice.

My blogs purpose now, is to be of inspiration for everyone. It doesn't matter if your into fashion or not. Everyone encounters struggles, we all face hardships and challenges in life. Our goal despite it all, is to keep pushing and to keep moving forward. If you feel as though you aren't in a positive space in life, and your negative thoughts are beginning to take control over your actions, switch to surrounding yourself with positive people with good energy. Once you begin to think positively about yourself and your circumstances you will begin to see a positive change in your life. It's nice to have friends that you can talk to, that will always lend you advice of value. Sometimes it can get frustrating trying to communicate your emotions to someone who maybe unsympathetic to your situation. Engage in conversations with people who share the same interest that you have, that can also relate, or who are at least understanding.

Once you begin to change your way of thinking, creat an outlet for yourself. My outlet is blogging, reading and fashion, yours may be be dancing, reading, writing, cooking, healthy living, or even mediating. These are all good forms of releasing negative energy to focus on something positive.

Now, I've said all this to say we are only given one life to live and we are all blessed with specific gifts and talents. I moved to New York City to pursue a dream. I believe that any and everything is possible with a little hard work, dedication, and a lot of faith.

New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014

This past Thursday I had an amazing opportunity to assist backstage for Designer Laurel DeWitt during fashion week. I was introduced to Laurel's brand through 4 Seasons Style Management, 4 Seasons is also where I intern for Lisa and her business partner Cappie. I've been following Lisa and Cappie for sometime now, researching their company, reading over their biographers, and practically analyzing how they built a name for themselves. I contacted Lisa consistently until I finally received a response back. After snagging an interview with Lisa's project manager things finally took off. My first day was a little intimidating, I met with a few other interns and employees for the company. That day we prepped for Laurel Dewitt's fashion show produced by 4 seasons Style Management and styled by Lisa. We organized wardrobe pieces, created photographic word documents, and a PR contact spread sheet.

They day of the show my entire body was filled with an adrenaline  rush. I was eager and ready to tackle any task that landed my way, I was surprised at the amount of responsibility I was given. I had the privilege of waiting in Lisa's Manhattan chic office for a last minute shoe package all by myself, pretty sweet right. Once the Fedex package arrived I caught a cab and headed over to the venue.

I arrived at the location just in time, managing to sneak in before Lisa. Inside, I observed as Lisa did her thing. Her stern but captivating personality intrigued me. Lisa and her assistant expected us to have everything organized and under control, and we did.

Backstage time fly by rapidly, we dressed at least 20 models or more placing them in their designated spots in line. I was amazed at the final product and how everything came together despite all of the chaos prior. I admired everyones effort and dedication for putting on such a magnificent show.

Check out the behind the scene photos below.
